I-70 Roadwork May Cause Traffic Delays
COLUMBIA - Repairs and construction on Interstate-70 may cause traffic delays for people driving in the Columbia area during the next two days.
Starting Sunday night and lasting until 5 a.m. Wednesday, crews will be doing core drilling work on I-70 between the West Boulevard and Highway 63 exits. The westbound lane in this area will be closed on Monday and the eastbound lanes will be closed on Tuesday.
According to a MODOT spokesperson the core drilling is basic maintenance done to help keep the roads in good condition.
The entrance and exit ramps to Providence Road will also see closings this week as well. The westbound entrance ramp will be closed between 8 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. on Tuesday. The eastbound entrance ramp will be closed between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday. Motorists are advised by MODOT to find alternative routes for their commutes during these times.
There will also be construction in Cooper County this week. The intersection of Route K and the Blackwater railroad crossing will be closed for rail repairs from Monday until Thursday. MODOT says traffic will be detoured around this construction area using I-70 to Route 41 back to Route K.
