Immigration Judge Allows Mo. Man to Stay
PARK HILLS (AP) - A Missouri man has won his six-year battle to avoid deportation to Canada.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/GVp1S1 ) reports that a U.S. Immigration Judge in Kansas City, Mo., has sided with 35-year-old Scott Jones of Park Hills.
Jones grew up believing he was an American citizen, but when he broke his back in 2006 and applied for Medicaid, he was told he wasn't. He was arrested by immigration agents in 2010 and spent three months in jail.
It turned out that Jones' mother had immigrated to the U.S. from Scotland but moved to Canada before he was born. The father was American, but she didn't list him on her son's birth certificate. The couple reunited and she came back to the U.S. when her son was 6 weeks old.
