Infamous MU Grad Dies in Colorado
Lay graduated from Columbia's Hickman High School and received two degrees from MU, an undergraduate degree in 1964 and a graduate degree in 1965. In 1998, he donated $1.1 million in Enron stock to endow the Kenneth L. Lay Chair in Economics at MU, although the university has been unable to fill it. During his trial, Lay asked for the money back twice--first to donate to Hurricane Katrina victims, then to pay for his legal defense. The university refused, saying the money now belongs to the people of Missouri.
