BOONE COUNTY - The Missouri Department of Transportation closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 around 8 a.m. Monday because of an injury accident near Rocheport.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the interstate will be closed for an "extended period of time" around 8:30 a.m.. The patrol did not specify how many vehicles were involved.

Currently, traffic is being diverted from the interstate at the U.S. 40 overpass at Midway just west of Columbia. Drivers can re-join the interstate in Boonville.

Around 10 a.m., the Boone County Fire Protection District said the interstate is still closed and crews are working to clear the scene.
