Interim Coach Gets a Win
This was the first game coached by interim Tiger head coach Melvin Watkins, former head coach for Texas and Charlotte. With all the distractions surrounding the Tigers, and the resignation of Quin Snyder, one can see this as a leap in the right direction.
The first half was an offensive battle, when the Wildcats went on 9-0 run within a four minute period taking the lead 21-18.But after two Marshall Brown free throws and two Kevin Young baskets the Tigers retook the lead 24-21. The Tigers finished up the half with a two point lead 31-29 and shot 52% from the floor.
The second half began with a quick Kansas State basket tying it up, but the Tigers held the Wildcats to that one goal for the first four and half minutes.Brown made four clutch free throws with two and half minutes left giving the Tigers a two point lead 66-64.The Tigers held off the Wildcats to finish giving them the win.
Marshall Brown led Missouri, scoring 18 points and Thomas Gardner added 11, reaching double figures in scoring for the 19th time this season. Mizzou will not play again until visiting rival Kansas Saturday.
