Internet Filters Block Learning
Graham teaches a pop culture class and some blocked sites include the BBC and even the search engine Yahoo.
The problem isn't only at Rock Bridge.
Meredith Colgin is a district substitute and she sees the problem at other schools.
"If they're looking up college web sites there will be links to different stuff and they won't be able to look at the different sites to, you know, fill out the application process because then it is being a pop-up site and that keeps them from accessing it," she said.
The District said it has unblocked some of the sites, but it's a slow process.
"I think for the most part they've done what they can," said David Graham. "Teachers have the opportunity to request sites to be unblocked, but usually when you're teaching that, it's too late. By the time you find something you need to use, by the time the process works itself out, you're already passed what you needed it for."
