JEFFERSON CITY - Jefferson City Police arrested Jernail Hickmon, 22, for first degree assault related to a disturbance at Break Time, 627 Clark Avenue.
Around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, Jefferson City Police officers and Cole County Emergency personnel responded to a report of a large disturbance. Police said a group of people refused to move when a customer attempted to pull up to a gas pump. The group of people eventually moved and allowed the vehicle to pull alongside the pumps. After the customer exited his vehicle, a member of the group, Hickmon, began threatening the occupants of the vehicle.
Police said Hickmon left the lot, went to a nearby residence and returned moments later with a large kitchen knife. He allegedly waved the knife at the customer and punched a female passenger of the vehicle when she tried to intervene. The punch knocked her unconscious and EMS transported her to a local hospital. She received treatment for a concussion, serious facial injuries and a possible broken kneecap.
Hickmon fled the scene after the attack, but was located earlier Friday and was taken into custody. When he was arrested, he was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, in addition to the assault.
