JCPD: Similar reports of suspect buying multiple cell phones
JEFFERSON CITY – Police said they received a call about a cell phone theft incident similar to the incidents in Columbia, Lebanon and Macon. The call was about several suspects buying cell phones at a Walmart in the southeast part of the city.
Captain Doug Shoemaker of the Jefferson City Police Department said he appreciated the call because the police need to work with people in these cases.
“We hope citizens are vigilant in calling us,” Shoemaker said. “We need the public as an ally to report these types of things.”
Sergeant Maynard of the Columbia Police Department said he is trying to confirm whether the cell phone purchases were fraudulent or not. He did not know the number of phones being purchased.
Bridget Patton of the FBI said local law enforcement routinely shares information with the FBI that is considered “potentially suspicious.”
Local law enforcement said they have given all information to the FBI. Investigations are on-going.
