Jeff City Group Helping Mississippi Town Recover
Komu's marie saavedra looks at a jefferson city group that is making sure hurricane victims in a mississippi town get the help they need.
Atorney mary winter has been hard at work this week.
Not with the law, but for the people of waveland, mississippi.
"it's hard for those of us who live away from it to try to imagine what is going on there. And because we can't imagine it it's also hard for us to respond. "(lawyer mary winter)
But winter did respond after a friend from the gulf coast told her waveland was one of the hardest cities hit by katrina.
So she formed "jeff city helps."
"his is an opportunity where we are going to stay in constant contact with the city officials in waveland and find out what do you need today, what do you need this week, what do you need next week." (winter)
Waveland residents are asking for kitchen utensils, sheets and towels, and shovels for cleaning debris.
winter says the group isn't trying to take away from other agencies trying to help, like the american red cross.
She hopes "jeff city heps" will only add to that aid."
"we're three weeks into this now, and i think we're almost getting past the recovery...Where people are just so overwhelmed. The town is still devastated. We still need...Everything." (kathy pinn waveland resident)
