Jefferson City High School principal resigns amid complaints
JEFFERSON CITY - Jefferson City Public Schools announced Tuesday the principal at Jefferson City High School resigned Monday after several complaints from faculty and community members.
Principal Jeff Dodson submitted his resignation, effective Monday, after he expressed concern that ongoing complaints have made him unable to continue his leadership role. The Board of Education also said these complaints have negatively affected the learning environment in the school.
While no faculty member filed a grievance to allow any complaints to be investigated, JCPS said, many of the complaints had been discussed with students during class and with other staff and community members.
Jefferson City High School Associate Principal and NCC Director Sharon Longan will be the interim principal. JCPS said the district will begin to search for a new principal for 2015-16 starting later this fall.
JCPS said Dodson had a valid contract for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school year. JCPS said he will be paid the remainder of his 2014-15 contract and the first three months of his 2015-16 contract.
On July 24, 2013, a federal lawsuit was filed accusing Dodson and then-assistant principal Tammy Ridgeway of not doing enough to stop a band teacher from having an affair with a student.
In 2012, Christopher Knehans pleaded guilty to two felony counts of sexual contact with a student.
