Jefferson City Makes Great Effort for Joplin
JEFFERSON CITY - Organizations all over Jefferson City continued collecting donations for Joplin Wednesday. Tony Giuliani, chapter president of the Jaycees in Jefferson City said his donation center at the Fairgrounds has had a great turn out. Giuliani said donors dropped off lots of toiletry items, canned goods, and has more than a pallete of body wash. He said the most requested items in Joplin include razors, shaving cream and medical supplies.
"Helping out your community, helping out other communities, it's something you should do. It's a human thing to do," said Giuliani. He said it's nice to see the people of Jefferson City giving a hand to those in Joplin.
An employee of the Jefferson City Hy-Vee said the grocery store has already sent four truck loads of donations to Joplin. Judy Opel made a donation of toiletries and drinks after she checked out for some groceries. Opel said she has many friends and family in Joplin, and although she was sure they were okay, she wanted to help their community members.
"It's an important cause, that might be us someday, that might be us and we would want help too," said Opel. "We can't go there and help them physically because we aren't trained professionals, but we can do this [donate]."
