Jefferson City Man Convicted for Illegal Firearm Possession
JEFFERSON CITY - A federal court jury convicted a Jefferson City man Wednesday for possession of illegal firearms.
Prosecutors introduced evidence in the trial showing 39-year-old Andrew David Brandwein had six illegal firearms in his possession when he was arrested in Jan. 2011.
Brandwein was arrested on Jan. 8, 2011 when law enforcement officers responded to a fire at barn on Brandwein's property. While in the residence, officers discovered the firearms and took Brandwein into custody.
Brandwein was found guilty of felony possession of a weapon, as he had several prior felony convictions for possessing and selling controlled substances.
Brandwein's wife, 54-year-old Debra Louis Brandwein, pleaded guilty on Aug. 9 to tampering with evidence. Debra Brandwein admitted she cleaned two jars containing methamphetamine in order to protect her husband from prosecution.
Brandwein faces a sentence of up to ten years in federal prison without parole as a result of the conviction, and could be fined nearly $250,000.
