JEFFERSON CITY - A meeting about 15 proposed homes off Haselton Drive in Jefferson City was delayed Thursday night after local opposition to the project sprung up this week. A new road would provide access to the properties and connect to Haselton Drive. About 40 neighbors attended the meeting. Charlie Christiansen just moved to the neighborhood this fall. "You can ask anybody around here, we take pride in the homes and really take care of our properties." Paul Chinn owns 1606 Haselton and the land that would become the new homes. "I was surprised when I heard about all of the people and the negative reaction," Chinn said. The new homes would be on a street connecting at a hair pin turn. Neighbors argue the new homes won't be good for the area. "The main concern would be traffic whether its a pet getting hit by a vehicle or kids out in the road." A report by the city estimated the new houses would generate just 15 cars per hour at "peak hours." Joe Bednar lives next door to Chinn, and thinks that number could be "two to three times that." Just hours before a meeting on the proposal was about to begin, the developer, Central Missouri Professional Services, asked for a continuance, a legal action that delays the meeting. Chin said he found out about the continuance Thursday afternoon when the developer called him and said people were, "up in arms," about the project. Peggy Davis is organizing the resistance. She said the new road would create several problems for the area. "I think you can see from all of the people here that we really care about Haselton," Davis said.
