Jefferson City Police arrest man on suspicion of rape
JEFFERSON CITY - Police arrested a man on suspicion of first degree sodomy, felonious restraint, armed criminal action and first degree rape, according to a news release from the Jefferson City Police Department.
Shawndell Miller, 40, was arrested Thursday.
In the release, police said residents claimed a masked man with a gun entered a home in the 600 block of Belmont St., where he threatened a 17-year-old female victim and sexually assaulted her. Police responded to the scene after 6 a.m.
According to police, the victim told investigators the suspect forced himself on her against her will and took her phone to prevent her from calling anyone.
After detectives arrived and took descriptions from the victim and her mother, police said, they discovered Miller was also living at the residence. Police detained him and brought him to the department for questioning, a news release said.
Police said Miller had disposed of the gun, but detectives later found it.
Miller was in custody pending charges.
