Jefferson City Student Freed

UPDATE: According to CNN, all three students will be released from custody after a medical examination and filing paperwork at the police station. They will then be returned to their dorm rooms, and may be allowed to call home afterward.

JEFFERSON CITY - CNN confirms Jefferson City college student Derrik Sweeney and the other two American college students arrested in Cairo will be released Thursday from a Cairo courthouse. CNN spoke to Joy Sweeney, his mother, and said she was delighted by the news.

Sweeney was accused of throwing Molotov cocktails during a protest in Cairo. Sweeney is a student at Georgetown University and was attending American University at the time of his arrest.
