COLUMBIA - Melanie Bolten received a Job Point Award of Excellence for her work in helping veterans.

Bolten acts as a lifeline for veterans who call into Columbia's Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital.

"I don't want to fail them. I want to be there as a lifeline and their needs," said Bolten.

A few years ago, Bolten herself issued a call for help, so she turned to Job Point's Job Readiness Program.

Job Point advisor Tania Cook said Bolten was able to gain some experience while working as a front desk clerk.

"We followed up with giving her placement assistance by working with the other staff members here at Job Point to help her get job needs and work on resumes and interviewing skills and those types of things," said Cook.

Bolten said working for Job Point has helped her gain confidence in ways she didn't even know was possible. Her experience landed her a full time job at the VA Hospital's call center.

"It's been wonderful. I'm almost speechless because i can't thank everybody enough," said Bolten.
