COLUMBIA - Icy roads from the freezing temperatures and rain made travel difficult for people in Columbia and Boone County Friday night, according to the Public Safety Joint Communications Department.

Public Information Officer Scott Smith said the department is experiencing a high volume of calls about accidents.

Smith wants to remind everyone to slow down, steer and brake gently, accelerate slow at intersections and allow plenty of room between yourself and other vehicles. Motorists who are in non-injury accidents are advised to call the department's non-emergency phone number at 573-442-6131.
