Joplin Committee Recommends Firm for Reconstruction
JOPLIN (AP) - A citizens advisory team has chosen a Texas development firm to lead part of the Joplin's tornado redevelopment efforts.
The City Council will be asked on Monday to approve the hiring of Wallace Bajjali Development Partners of Sugar Land, Texas, as master developer, which puts together financing packages to construct projects and manages the development details. The Joplin Globe reports that the Citizens Advisory Recovery Team evaluated six firms that submitted proposals for the job.
Wallace Bajjali currently is working on redevelopment projects in Waco and Amarillo, two Texas cities that were hit by tornadoes in the past. Jane Cage, chairwoman of the Citizens Advisory Recovery Team, said the firm is willing to invest in projects for Joplin rather than asking to be paid a fee.
