Judge Rules Homeowner Can Place Political Signs in his Yard
HILLSBORO, Mo. - An eastern Missouri homeowner won the right to post a political sign in his yard.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that on Thursday a Jefferson County judge ruled that a Pevely homeowners' association violated Jim Lamprecht's right to free speech by prohibiting his political sign in his yard.
In April 2011 Lamprecht put up a sign showing his support for a city Board of Aldermen candidate. Days later, a trustee of the homeowners' association told him the sign violated subdivision covenants against most signs.
The American Civil Liberties Union filed suit on behalf of Lamprecht.
