COLUMBIA - Jury selection begins at 9 a.m. today for a former Lincoln County deputy facing involuntary manslaughter charges in the 2005 deaths of two men following a traffic stop. Twenty-seven-year-old Nic Forler of Troy is on trial in Columbia on a change of venue. In October of 2005, 23-year-old Michael Brown of Troy and 22-year-old driver Tyler Teasley of Silex were in a pickup truck Forler pulled over. Parked on an inclined subdivision driveway, the truck began to roll back toward Forler, who says he opened fire because he feared for his life. Other passengers say the truck only rolled because Teasley left the manual transmission in neutral and forgot to put his foot on the brake.
