Kahler's Wife's Alleged Lover Testifies in Case
LYNDON, Kan. (AP) - A Texas woman says a man on trial in Kansas for killing his estranged wife and three other relatives had encouraged the two women to have a sexual affair.
Sunny Reese, of Weatherford, Texas, testified for the prosecution Wednesday in the capital murder trial of 48-year-old James Kraig Kahler.
Kahler is charged in the fatal shootings of his estranged wife, Karen Kahler, their two teenage daughters and the wife's grandmother in November 2009 at the grandmother's home near Burlingame.
The defense contends Kahler snapped because of Reese's affair with his wife and the wife's pursuit of a divorce while the couple lived in Columbia, Mo., where he was a city official.
Reese testified the affair began in 2008, with Kahler's blessing, while the Kahler family was living in the Texas town.
