Katrina Furniture Bank Still Going Strong
Last month, the furniture bank gave away 45 beds and, in the past three months, it has helped 72 families.
Columbia native Bob McNear started it so people can help others by donating household items rather than money.
"Just the central Missouri community, whenever there's any type of emergency, be it a small emergency or something gigantic like this storm, the community responds so well," said McNear.
The bank has received donated beds, sofas, shoes, lamps and even a piano. And, volunteers will deliver if you need help taking things home.
"Secondary benefit of what we're doing, we're big recyclers, obviously, keeps stuff from going into the landfill," McNear added.
The furniture bank is open the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. To donate, call 573-808-2757.
