KANSAS CITY (AP) - A business accelerator focused on working with Internet startup companies has formed in Kansas City.

Called SparkLabKC, the business accelerator will select 10 early-stage Internet startup companies each year. It will provide seed capital of up to $18,000, mentors and free workspace. Startups also will benefit from legal, accounting, financial and human resources advisory services.

The first batch of applications will be taken from Feb. 1 through March 31. The 90-day accelerator program will begin May 29.

SparkLabKC's sponsors and partners include a law firm, bank and accounting firm. Also participating will be the University of Missouri-Kansas City Innovation Center, the University of Kansas Center for Technology Commercialization and the University of Missouri.
