Kendall Won't be Behind Plate for Royals' Opener
SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP)- Jason Kendall won't be behind the plate for the Kansas City Royals' season opener, but he might be by mid-April. He had extensive shoulder surgery last September and was expected to be out nine to 12 months, but he is way ahead of schedule. He will catch five to six innings in a minor league game Sunday and is penciled in to catch in two major league games before
the Royals break camp. Kendall has been selected to three All-Star games. He has caught 2,025 games, ranking fifth on the all-time career games caught. Only Ivan Rodriguez, Carlton Fisk, Bob Boone and Gary Carter have
caught more games than Kendall.
