Kids Take Center Stage
Center Stage is now in its third year. The program provides free dance lessons for things like jazz, ballet and hip hop.
More than 250 Columbia school children from kindergarten through ninth grade participate in the recital. KOMU's own Megan Murphy is part of the Center Stage program. The recital was a chance for the kids to enjoy the benefits of all their hard work.
"The kids are so excited this year. They've worked so hard and all the teachers have been preparing for so long for this recital. You just can't describe how it is to see these kids on stage for the first time dancing in front of their parents and their friends and their teachers. It just lights up their day and lights up their hearts and we love it," Murphy said.
Center Stage is already starting to plan for next year. Students who are interested in taking the stage will get the chance to sign up this fall.
