WEBSTER, N.Y. (AP) - A man who served more than 17 years in prison for beating his 92-year-old grandmother to death with a hammer has now taken at least two more lives.
Police near Rochester, N.Y., say William Spengler set a car and a house on fire this morning to lure firefighters -- and then opened fire when they arrived, killing two of the firefighters and injuring two others.
Authorities say the gunman then committed suicide. Seven houses were destroyed by fire, and police haven't been able to determine if there are more victims. They say the gunman's sister is unaccounted for.
