COLUMBIA - The University of Missouri introduced Kim Anderson Tuesday as its 18th head basketball coach in program history. Athletic Director Mike Alden made the announcement at the Reynolds Almuni Center.

The "True Son" native comes back to his alma mater for the third time after coaching twelve years at the University of Central Missouri where he led the Mules to three Division II final fours and the 2014 national championship.

Anderson said he knew he was hired around 2:15 p.m. Monday. He immediately gathered his Central Missouri team together, talked to them and then drove to Columbia.

He coached under legendary coach Norm Stewart two separate times (1982-'85, '91-'99), with a stop at Baylor in between his time in the Show-Me State.

Anderson takes over the head coaching duties after Frank Haith left for Tulsa a little less than two weeks ago. He becomes the fourth head coach in Mike Alden's tenure as athletic director.

"I'm not the best coach in the country," Anderson said. "I'm not. But I can steal from anybody."

Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin was not in attendance Tuesday because he is attending a meeting in Washington, D.C. but issued this statement, "Kim is a proven winner. He is a perfect ft for Mizzou. He is a positive reflection of who we are, now and into the future. He is a man of character and integrity. "He will recruit elite student-athletes who will bring championships to Mizzou and earn their degrees while representing all of us with pride. The future is very bright with Kim at the helm of our men's basketball program."

Anderson said Missouri will play disciplined basketball.

"It may be 2014 but smart, hard nosed, disciplined basketball never goes out of style," Anderson said.

"I don't ever use the word rebuilding," Anderson said. "Hopefully it's reloading. I think we have a good basketball team."

Anderson ended the news conference asking fans to show up to games.

"For those of you with tickets, would you please come to the games?" Anderson asked.
