Kitchen fire leaves all unharmed in north Columbia
COLUMBIA - The Columbia Fire Department said no one was injured in a fire that damaged a home's kitchen early Friday morning.
Firefighters responded to 2618 Quail Drive at 3:10 a.m. The fire was contained to the kitchen and was put out in five minutes.
All people inside the home were able to evacuate when the smoke alarms went off.
Assistant Fire Marshal Mike Bauer, who investigated the fire, said the fire started because of unattended cooking. He estimated the damage to be $1,500.
The Columbia Fire Department reminds citizens to test smoke alarms at least once a month to ensure they are working in the event of a fire.
