Knights of Columbus host free throw competition
COLUMBIA - Kids ages 9 through 14 competed at Father Tolton High School to see who would get to move on to the district level of the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition.
This year one girl ended up with a perfect score, making all 15 free throws. Youth Programs Director for Columbia Council 1529 of the Knights of Columbus Mike Fulca says that's uncommon, but there have been competitors in past years that have come close.
"We have had 15 of 15 before or close to it, and at the district or higher level they shoot 25 and we've seen 24 out of 25 sometimes," Fulca said.
The event is hosted annually by the Knights of Columbus and based on how well they do, competitors have a chance to make it all the way to the international level to compete.
Fulca says the event has been a staple of the organization for about eight years. Fulca has been the Youth Programs Director for six of those years.
The kids are divided by age and gender with one boy and one girl in each age group moving on to the district level.
