KOMU.Com Exclusive: Reporter reaction to Hermann
However, with a story like this, I knew it wouldn't be necessary. My job for this story would be to go to Hermann, and find some people to talk with.
Of course everyone down there knew who we were, after all we had two big trucks down there with gigantic peacocks on the side. However, it is my job as a reporter to find out who these people are, and tell there story.
Anyone watching knows there is a flood in Hermann, I don't have to point that out. It is my job to find a story that is interesting to people, yet still timely and newsworthy. While I was down there, the main thing that kept coming up was everyone watching all of the debris going downstream.
People saw logs, coolers, and even refrigerators. And one man from the U.S. Geological Survey found a souvenir baseball for the trip. What I was pleased with on this story, is that it turned out to be something more than just watching the water go by, it was about finding what was in it, and why everyone showed up to see.
