KOMU.Com Exclusive: See the full interview with Joel Thiel
Thiel says the smoking ban has drastically hurt his business during the weekdays. He even mentioned that most of his lunch crowd has disappeared. He says he thinks a lot of businesses will end up cutting back hours, or laying off employees, if not closing their doors altogether.
But the lack of money isn't the only thing that bothers Thiel. He says this ordinance is nothing more than government infringement. As he puts it, now the city government is telling people where they can and can't do something that is perfectly legal, smoking a cigarette.
He also says he feels the world has become so backward that the city will have fine of $50 dollars for a marijuana cigarette, but a tobacco cigarette is a $200 fine.
Thiel is one of many business owners looking to end the smoking ban by pushing a petition in the city.
