La Plata food pantry asks for support to win grant
LA PLATA - A mid-Missouri food pantry is asking the community to help it win a national grant that would help it continue to support families in need.
The La Plata Christian Ministries Food Distribution Center is in the running to win part of the $1.5 million grant the Walmart's Food Pantry Holiday Makeover campaign is awarding to 75 food pantries across the country.
To help the food pantry win, you can go to Walmart's website and cast your vote. The top 75 food banks with the most votes will win $20,000 to purchase equipment they need to prepare, store and transport food to families in need. One food pantry will also be selected to receive a free consultation from DIY Network host James Young, who will give his advice on the best way to use the grant.
Voting opened Dec. 2 and will stay open until Dec. 12.
The La Plata Christian Ministries Food Distribution Center is the only food pantry in the mid-Missouri area eligible for the grant.
