Lady Cougars Clinch Road Win
WALNUT RIDGE, AR -- The Columbia Lady Cougar basketball team pushed its American Midwest Conference (AMC) record to 4-1 Thursday night, dropping Williams Baptist College 68-62. The Lady Cougars are 14-7 overall. The Lady Eagles fall to 10-7 overall and 3-3 vs. AMC foes.
Columbia dominated from the opening tip and led Williams Baptist 36-25 at halftime. The Lady Cougars started with a 16-5 run and never looked back, leading the entire contest, including a 21-point advantage in the first frame.
The Lady Eagles improved on their offensive performance in the second half, outscoring the Lady Cougars 37-32, but it wasn't enough to overcome the first half deficit. The Lady Cougars dropped in 43 percent of their shots compared to the Eagles who connected on just 31 percent of their attempts.
Airelle Eldridge tallied 19 points in the victory. Tierney Seifert added 15 points and seven rebounds. Heather English had 14 points and Julie Teeple finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Lady Cougars return to the hardwood of the Arena of Southwell Complex on Saturday, January 28. Columbia hosts Hannibal-LaGrange University in another conference match-up at 2 P.M.
