Lady Cougars Fall to Ashford
CLINTON, IA - The Columbia Lady Cougar basketball team suffered its fifth loss of the season Monday night, falling to the host team Ashford University by a score of 55-43. The Lady Cougars, who are ranked No. 23 in the NAIA Top 25 Poll, are now 8-5 on the season.
The Cougars did not shoot well in the first half, connecting on only 20 percent of their shots leading to a 31-17 deficit at the break. In the second half, the Saints continued their pressure and forced Columbia into 20 turnovers, amounting in 17 points. Columbia could not put together a run to cut into the deficit, leaving them with the 12-point loss.
Leading the way for Columbia was Airelle Eldridge with 22 points and seven rebounds. Kirsti Wilkerson chipped in eight points and Julie Teeple pulled down nine rebounds.
The Lady Cougars return to action in a little over a week when they take part in the Cougars vs. Cancer Classic presented by Cost Cutters. The Lady Cougars will face Peru State College at 6 P.M. on Friday, December 30 and Campbellsville University at 6 P.M. on Saturday, December 31. Game times for the event, which will feature men's and women's teams, are slated for 2 P.M., 4 P.M., 6 P.M. and 8 P.M. both days. All games will take place at The Arena of Southwell Complex. A portion of the proceeds raised during the event will directly benefit the American Cancer Society.
