Lady Cougars Hold On For A Win In Overtime
FAYETTE, MO - The Columbia Lady Cougar basketball team squeaked out a thrilling win on the road Saturday, defeating Missouri Valley College in overtime 78-72. With the win, the Lady Cougars, who are ranked No. 18 in the preseason NAIA Top 25 Poll, improve to 2-0 on the season.
Columbia held a 40-26 advantage heading into the locker rooms after shooting 52 percent from the field and 70 percent from beyond the arc. However, the Vikings came storming back in the second half, outscoring the Lady Cougars 37-23 and sending the game into overtime.
Julie Teeple's field goal seconds into the overtime gave the Lady Cougars the advantage for good as they rolled to the 78-72 victory.
Teeple paced the Lady Cougars with 21 points and nine rebounds. Airelle Eldridge added 16 points and Kayla Rice posted 13 points. Amanda Phillips led the rebounding effort with 11 boards.
The Lady Cougars return to the court on Monday, Nov. 7 for their home opener when they host Lyon College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Arena of Southwell Complex.
