PERU, NE -- In their second road game of the season the Lady Cougar women's basketball team defeated Peru State College 80-69. Columbia, ranked No. 21 in the preseason NAIA poll, improve to 4-2 overall.
Columbia trailed the Bobcats 42-36 at halftime, allowing the host squad to go on a 7-0 run to close out the first 20 minutes of play. The Lady Cougars shot just 36 percent compared to 47 by Peru State, leading to the six-point deficit.
The Lady Cougars came alive in the second half, knotting the score at 50 mid-way through the frame. Columbia went on a 17-7 run after the tied ball game and did not trail for the rest of the contest, connecting on 47 percent of their attempts.
Julie Teeple notched 18 points and nine rebounds. Heather English tallied 15 points and Lily Abreu was also in double figures with 13 points.
Peru State's Courtney Ward led all players with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
The Lady Cougars continue play on the road as they travel to Campbellsville, Kentucky on Monday, November 26th to face No. 13 ranked Campbellsville University in a re-match. Columbia took on Campbellsville on November 5th with the Tigers edging out the Lady Cougars 77-68 in a hard fought contest. Game time for Monday's game is set for 6 p.m.
