Lady Cougars Top Stephens Stars
COLUMBIA -- The Columbia Lady Cougar basketball squad improved to 12-6 overall and 2-0 in American Midwest Conference (AMC) regular season action Saturday, defeating the Stars from Stephens College 82-41. The loss drops the Stars to 0-2 in league action and 1-13 on the year.
The Lady Cougars, who led 43-12 at halftime, held the home team to just five field goals in the first frame while Columbia shot 42 percent from the field.
The Stephens Stars more than doubled their offensive output in the second frame, but it wasn't enough to come close to the Lady Cougars who easily walked away with the 41-point win.
Julie Teeple paced five Lady Cougars in double figures with a 18 points. Ashley Fisher finished with 14 points while Heather English and Tierney Seifert chipped in 13 apiece. Kirsti Wilkerson had 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Airelle Eldridge dished out seven assists and Kaitlin Bogle grabbed eight rebounds.
Jessica McConnell had 13 points for Stephens.
Columbia returns to action next Thursday, January 19th. The Lady Cougars host William Woods University in an AMC showdown at 5:30 P.M. in the Arena of Southwell Complex.
