MARSHALL, MO -- The Missouri Valley Lady Vikings basketball team picked up its second win of the season defeating Park University 61-58 at the Burns Athletic Complex Tuesday night. The Lady Vikings took control of the game early, and hung tough down the stretch for the win.
The Lady Vikings shot just under 50-percent from the field in the first half, building up a comfortable 36-25 lead going into the halftime break. Better shooting by Park in the second half made things close, as the two teams were tied with just a minute remaining, but good free-throw shooting down the stretch helped the Lady Vikings pull out the victory.
Free-throwing shooting and rebounding proved to be the key as the Lady Vikings finished 15 for 21 from the line, while Park was just 14 for 26. Plus, MVC out-rebounded Park by a 40 to 24 margin.
Leading the way for MVC was Junior Guard Alexis Sweet who finished with 19 points and seven rebounds. Also in double-digits for the Lady Vikings were Junior Forward Ebone Brown and Senior Guard Lindsi Jackson, both scoring 10 points in the game.
The win improves the Lady Vikings to 2-2 on the season while Park drops to 1-4. Up next the Lady Vikings travel to the Northwest Missouri Tournament in Maryville, Missouri over the weekend, playing NCAA Division II foes William Jewell College Friday and Southwest Minnesota State University Saturday.
