Lake of the Ozarks Boosters Eye Giant Welcome Sign
LAKE OZARK, Mo. (AP) - Lake of the Ozarks business boosters want to take a page out of Hollywood with an oversized welcome sign near the lake area's east entrance.
The Lake Sun Leader reports the Chamber of Commerce hopes to install the sign on state property along U.S. 54 54 in the city of Lake Ozark, using a mix private contributions and government grants.
The design includes 7-to-8-foot-tall steel letters that spell out "Lake of the Ozarks," with a 40-foot-long protective concrete wall. The illuminated sign would be visible from a half-mile away.
Chamber chairman Joe Roger says the sign will cost about $45,000. The Lake Ozark City Council plans to discuss the project at its next meeting in early August.
