Lawmakers Hope for Peace and Quiet for Cell Phone Users
JEFFERSON CITY - Law makers will hear the third reading of Senate Bill 484 Thursday morning. The bill could allow Missourians the opportunity to add their cell phone numbers to the state's Do Not Call list.
Attorney General Chris Koster recently released the Top 10 consumer scams of 2011. Telemarketer phone calls topped the list at number one with more than 20 thousand complaints throughout the year. Koster's office received, on average, 89 calls a day complaining about telemarketer phone calls, many of them coming from cell phone users.
Missouri's current Do Not Call list only covers land lines and home phones. The new proposed bill will cover cell phone calls and text messages. The bill would require anyone making a political phone call to include the statement, "paid for by".
