Lawsuit Over Mo. Medicaid Contracts Goes to Court
JEFFERSON CITY - A California company that lost a Medicaid contract with Missouri is suing the state, alleging the bid process was changed to favor certain companies, including a major donor to Gov. Jay Nixon.
A hearing on Molina Healthcare's lawsuit is scheduled for Friday in Cole County. The California-based company is asking a judge to delay an open enrollment period scheduled to begin April 19.
The Kansas City Star reports Molina was one of five companies with Medicaid contracts in Missouri until this year, when the state decided only three companies would be awarded more than $1.1 billion in contracts.
One of the companies chosen was Centene Corp., which has made donations to Nixon.
The state agency that handles contracts for Missouri said the bids were awarded properly.
