Liberty Man Sentenced to Life in Prison
LIBERTY - A 30-year old man receives a life sentence in prison for a drunk driving accident that killed a 60-year old woman. A Clay County judge sentenced Lucas Bates to life in prison plus fourteen years. Bates pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree assault and flight to avoid arrest.
Bates was driving drunk and caused a crash that killed Shirley Harless.
Bates apologized to the family and said he battled a lifelong addiction to drugs and alcohol.
