Lincoln Third MIAA Program in Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings
JEFFERSON CITY - Lincoln University finished third among MIAA programs, and 52nd overall, in the final 2012-13 Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Division II standings, released on Thursday, June 6.
The rankings are based on team finishes at each of the NCAA's Division II national championships. Lincoln earned its ranking primarily on the strength of its nationally-recognized track & field programs. The Blue Tiger women were the No. 1 team in the country according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's weekly national rankings for most of the spring. They finished the season as the national runner-up at this year's indoor national championships and tied for third at the outdoor championship meet. The Lincoln women won their third-straight MIAA indoor and outdoor titles this season.
The LU men, meanwhile, placed ninth at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships before taking sixth at the outdoor championships.
The Blue Tigers earned 315.00 total points in this year's rankings, placing Lincoln just outside the top 50 programs in all of NCAA Division II. LU tallied 159.00 points during the winter sports season and 156.00 points in the spring.
Central Missouri had the highest finish in the standings by an MIAA program, finishing 17th overall with 493.75 points. Central Oklahoma was the only other league program to finish ahead of Lincoln, using a national championship in softball to finish with 435.00 points. The Blue Tigers edged Nebraska-Kearney for third. Thanks to a national title in wrestling, UNK ended with 312.00 points to finish three full points behind Lincoln.
