Linn State Tech Hosts Caterpillar Global Conference
LINN - Linn State Technical College played host Thursday to a global conference for one of the world's largest manufacturing companies.
Caterpillar's ThinkBIG Global Conference drew 70 attendees from 10 countries and 21 universities.
Steve Hitch, who works in Global Manpower Development for Caterpillar, said the conference is important for uniting and informing international Caterpillar employees.
"The conference today is a celebration of bringing all of our college instructors and administrators together, face-to-face, from around the world," Hitch said. "This is all about education and being consistent in our outcomes of the education process regardless of country or society."
Attendees listened to speakers and technicians in classrooms before heading to equipment labs and learning about new technology. They were able to preview new Caterpillar technology and ask questions about how the equipment works.
These representatives will then train other Caterpillar employees on the new technology when they return to their home countries.
Ramiro Bouroncle works for Caterpillar in Lima, Peru. He made the trip to Linn for the conference and said his favorite part was "networking and meeting people. And sharing experiences."
