Local business owners offer insight on latest home improvement trends
COLUMBIA — Homeowners received spring improvement project tips and ideas at the 57th Annual Mid-Missouri Home Show.
The two-day event was held on Friday and Saturday.
Vendors selling products used in and around the home set up exhibits at Parkade Plaza on Business Loop 70 West in Columbia.
Vendors demonstrated the newest technologies and latest trends in flooring, cabinets, roofing and many other areas of the home.
One trend for this spring is finding new ways to utilize existing space. Remodeling business owner Cale Kliethermes says he sees people updating the function more than the fashion of their homes.
“We’re seeing a lot of screened porches, a lot of people wanting to use every bit of their home, inside and out, wanting to do a lot of entertaining and just don’t have that right now. Outside, what can they do to really enjoy their space,” Kliethermes said.
Columbia Home Builders Association board member Stephanie Hall said the home show is about connecting people to specialists in a comfortable environment.
“Our goal is to put our experts in the home industry right in front of our local consumers so they can ask questions, see the product, feel the product and talk to somebody that’s right here in our community,” Hall said.
Seminars were held in the lower level of the building. Topics included financial advice, energy efficient living and DIY projects.
The show was co-sponsored by the Columbia Home Builders Association and KMOS-TV.
