Local runners take part in "Beer Mile"
ROCHEPORT - Hundreds of runners from across the state were in Rocheport Sunday morning to enjoy the warm weather, a good workout and a free drink.
The ShamRox run included options for a 5K and 15K race, but for about 60 other runners, they took part in a different, unique race.
They ran the "Beer Mile," which involved running four laps and drinking four cups of beer during their run.
Each runner, who was 21 or older, drank about 6 ounces of beer each lap, taking more and more time to get through each cup of beer.
Runners who participated in the 5K or 15K races also got a free glass of beer at the end of their race. Organizers said they held a similar event last year in Springfield. About 200 runners took part in that "Beer Mile."
