Local Sports Radio Company Preps For Nationwide March Madness
JEFFERSON CITY - As NCAA March Madness ensues, one local radio company is responsible for producing sports broadcasts for colleges across the nation. Learfield Sports, a unit of Learfield Communications, Inc., is working with college radio networks this month to deliver NCAA games, commercials and promos.
"It can be insane," said broadcast manager Tom Boman. "Our job is to make sure our listeners have no idea what's going on behind the scenes."
The Jefferson City studio is full of sports items including football helmets at the board operators' booths. Each helmet represents a school affiliated with Learfield Sports. Learfield Sports mixes and produces audio for 22 schools in its local studio and 47 schools altogether.
NCAA basketball aside, the radio group also covers college football, men's and women's basketball, hockey and baseball.
Learfield produces NCCA tournament basketball games for:
- Iowa State
- Kansas State
- New Mexico
- North Carolina
