LU Track Athlete Honored for Third Time This Season
JEFFERSON CITY - For the third time this indoor season, the MIAA announced Tuesday its selected Donna-Lee Hylton as the MIAA's Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
Hylton turned in two of the best times in the country at the Fred Wilt Invitational on Saturday, including winning the 400 meter with a time of 55.86 seconds. Hylton beat 22 other runners, including 18 from NCAA Division I schools, to finish with the fastest time in the MIAA and the third-best time in NCAA Division II.
Hylton later was a part of Lincoln's 4x400 meter relay team which took second in 3:44.57, the top time in the country and NCAA Division II's only automatic qualifier in that event. Kimberly Bailey, Tamara Keane and Lovan Palmer were also members of the relay squad.
This is Hylton's fifth career MIAA Women's Track Athlete of the Week honor and the third of the 2013-2014 indoor season. The senior sprinter picked up the award on Jan. 28 after a strong performance at the Jayhawk Classic and again on Feb. 4 after winning the 400 meter dash at the GVSU meet. This is also Hylton's sixth overall athlete of the week award, as she was named the USTFCCCA's Division II National Women's Track Athlete of the Week earlier this month.
For the season, the LU women's team, currently ranked No. 1 in the country in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Division II poll, has earned a total of eight athlete of the week awards. Other athletes to be honored include Yanique Ellington and Twishana Williams in the track category and Shakeisha Miller and Nickeisha Beaumont in the field category.
