Lynching Victim Remembered
COLUMBIA - James Scott was a citizen of Columbia and was accused of raping a white woman in 1923.
He was lynched before the case went to trial.
Members of the James Scott Monument Committe plan to restore Scott's name by giving his grave a headstone telling his story.
The committe also wants to get the phrase "committed rape" removed from Scott's death certificate.
