Macon man hospitalized while trying to assist car crash
JEFFERSON CITY - A Macon man and two others were hospitalized Saturday morning in one of two crashes that occurred at the 1300 block of U.S. 54.
The first crash around 9:40 a.m. involved a single car in the eastbound lanes, leaving no one injured, police said.
The second happened in the westbound lanes. Gary Prenger, 67, stopped his car in the passing lane to help the driver of the first crash when his 2008 Buick Enclave was rear-ended by a 2012 Ford Focus.
Prenger was taken to a local hospital for his injuries.
The driver of the 2012 Ford Focus and her passenger were taken to a local hospital as well.
Police said all three injured wore seat belts at the time of the crash.
Eastbound lanes were briefly blocked to one lane while the crash was being investigated. Both of the westbound lanes were blocked for about 45 minutes while emergency crews were on scene and traffic was diverted to Jefferson Street.
